We assess your vehicle against the applicable Queensland inspection standards and issue a COI once it passes.

Our team of qualified inspectors is dedicated to ensuring your vehicle meets all regulatory standards so you can stress less and focus on delivering great service to your passengers! Drive confidently with Roadworthies, knowing your car is inspected and certified by the best in Queensland.

Why Rideshare COI Certificates Matter

For rideshare and other booked hire vehicles in Queensland, keeping your car roadworthy helps protect you, your passengers and other road users. Queensland booked hire vehicles must have a current certificate of inspection (COI), unless exempt. Your car must also meet your chosen platform’s current vehicle requirements for the service you plan to provide.

At Roadworthies, we understand that the safety of your passengers and yourself depends heavily on the condition of your car. Our rideshare COI inspection service provides a comprehensive assessment against the applicable Queensland inspection standards. Whether you drive for Uber, DiDi, Shebah or another service, check your platform’s current vehicle and document requirements before booking.

From brakes and lights to wheels and seat belts, we carefully inspect crucial safety components to assess whether your car meets the applicable inspection requirements. A COI is issued once your vehicle passes the required inspection. Passing an inspection does not guarantee approval to drive on a rideshare platform; you must also meet its vehicle, driver and document requirements.

The Rideshare COI Inspection Process

Getting your rideshare vehicle inspected shouldn’t be a hassle, and at Roadworthies, we streamline the process to get you back on the road. Our rideshare COI inspection service assesses rideshare and other booked hire vehicles against the applicable Queensland inspection standards. Platform eligibility and document requirements are separate from passing the COI inspection.

Here are some of the factors that we look out for when inspecting your vehicle:

  • Brakes

Wheel cylinders, callipers, discs, pads and park brake controls

  • Tyres

    Tyre tread depth, condition

  • Lights

Headlights, signal indicator lights, brake lights, park lights

  • Engine

Cooling system, drive belts, engine oil level, fault codes

  • Oil Leaks

Engine, driveline and brake system oil leaks

  • Under Body

Panels, frames, steering and suspension, exhaust and driveline components

Booked Hire Service Licence (BHSL)

Before providing Uber passenger trips in Queensland, your vehicle must be covered by a valid Booked Hire Service Licence (BHSL). The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) requires the nominated vehicle to have a current Certificate of Inspection (COI), unless exempt, when applying for a BHSL. The BHSL is for the vehicle; each driver must also hold the required driver authorisation.

Certificate of Inspection (COI)

Queensland booked hire vehicles must have a current COI unless exempt under TMR requirements. For rideshare cars, a COI is valid for 12 months from issue unless cancelled. Uber also requires vehicle inspections and current inspection documentation for passenger services, so check its current requirements even if a TMR exemption applies. If your car needs an inspection, Roadworthies can assess it against the applicable standards and issue a COI once it passes.

Compulsory Third Party Insurance (CTP)

Your vehicle must have current CTP insurance in the correct class for its use. For an owner-operated rideshare car, this is generally class 26. Confirm the correct class with your CTP insurer, particularly for rental vehicles, and update it before providing booked hire services. Uber also requires at least third-party property damage insurance; CTP alone does not meet all of Uber’s insurance requirements.

Identification Signage

When providing Uber passenger services in Queensland, display the TMR-approved identification signs supplied by Uber on both windscreens. Place the front sign at the bottom right when viewing the vehicle from the front, and the rear sign at the bottom left when viewing it from the rear. Signs must not obstruct your view of the road or traffic. Remove the signs when the vehicle is not in service or is being used privately. If you use another rideshare platform, display the approved signs for the booking entity you are providing services for.

The inspection assesses your car against the applicable inspection standards, including brakes, tyres, lights, steering and underbody components. A COI is issued once your car passes. Use Fast Online Booking to arrange your inspection and confirm the details for your location.

What is a rideshare COI inspection?

When it comes to driving for Uber in Queensland, ensuring your vehicle meets the required safety standards is essential, which is where a rideshare COI inspection comes in. Our team offers a detailed assessment of critical components including brakes, tyres, steering and lights against the applicable inspection standards. Passing an inspection does not guarantee approval to drive on the Uber platform.

Uber vehicle inspection guidance

Does my car need a safety certificate if I want to be an Uber driver?

For Queensland rideshare passenger services, the relevant inspection document is a Certificate of Inspection (COI), rather than the safety certificate generally used for registration transfers. Booked hire vehicles must have a current COI unless exempt under TMR requirements. Uber also has its own vehicle inspection and document requirements, so check these before booking.

Can I drive for Uber if I haven’t completed a vehicle safety inspection?

Uber requires a vehicle inspection before you begin providing passenger trips. In Queensland, your vehicle must be covered by a Booked Hire Service Licence (BHSL), and TMR requires a current COI for the nominated vehicle unless exempt. Each driver also needs the required driver authorisation. Roadworthies can inspect your car and issue a COI once it passes.

How do I prepare for a rideshare COI inspection?

Start by cleaning your vehicle inside and out so inspectors can see its components clearly. Check your brakes, tyre tread and condition, headlights, indicators, brake lights and park lights. Check engine oil and coolant levels according to the vehicle handbook, and look for leaks. Addressing obvious issues beforehand can help, but these checks do not replace the inspection or guarantee a pass.

What happens if my car fails the COI inspection for Uber?

No problem, don’t panic! The inspection report will identify the issues that need attention, such as worn tyres, faulty lights or brake problems. Arrange the required repairs, then contact Roadworthies to schedule a reinspection. Confirm the applicable timeframe, availability and any charge with the team. A COI can only be issued once your car meets the inspection requirements.

Use our fast online booking form or call our team to arrange your inspection.

How long does the inspection take, and can you inspect at my home or workplace?

A rideshare COI inspection usually takes 30–60 minutes. Our team can arrange a mobile inspection at your home or workplace, subject to suitable safe access and space. Ask the booking team to confirm site suitability, and mention any access or parking restrictions.

Use Fast Online Booking to share your vehicle and location details.

How often do I need to renew my rideshare COI?

For Queensland rideshare cars, a COI is normally valid for 12 months from issue unless cancelled. Check your certificate’s expiry date and arrange renewal before it expires. Uber requires annual inspections and current inspection documents.

Does passing the inspection mean my car is approved for Uber?

No. Passing means your car meets the applicable inspection standards; it does not guarantee access to Uber. You must also meet the requirements for your chosen Uber service, including vehicle eligibility, driver and account approval, licences, insurance and required documents.

Uber Brisbane vehicle requirements

Can I use the same inspection certificate for Uber and DiDi?

A current Queensland COI relates to your vehicle and is not exclusive to one rideshare platform. You may submit the same certificate to Uber and DiDi, provided each accepts your current documents. Each platform assesses vehicle and driver eligibility independently, so acceptance by one does not guarantee approval by the other.

Are Uber Eats inspection requirements the same as Uber passenger services?

No. Delivery and passenger services have different requirements. Uber Eats supports cars, scooters, motorcycles and bicycles, with requirements depending on the delivery method. Do not assume passenger-service inspection and licensing rules apply to delivery. If you also carry passengers, you must meet the separate passenger-service requirements.
